Jazz re:freshed presents: Amy Gadiaga & DoomCannon
Max Watt's Melbourne (Melbourne, VIC)
Tuesday, 21 October 2025 7:30 pm
Champions of the UK’s cutting-edge jazz scene, Jazz re:freshed return with a bold and boundary-pushing double bill featuring Amy Gadiaga and DoomCannon, alongside a line-up of their best DJs.
Originally founded to spotlight the talent of underrepresented young artists, Jazz re:freshed has since scouted and nurtured the biggest names in UK jazz including Shabaka Hutchings, Yussef Dayes, Nubya Garcia and GoGo Penguin, as well as expanding its reach to international stages including SXSW and AFROPUNK.
UK-based Parisian bassist, vocalist and composer Amy Gadiaga kicks off the night, combining her prodigious bass playing and a voice brimming with power and emotion. With a fresh and unique style that bridges the old school jazz tradition of musicians such as Betty Carter and Wayne Shorter with the raw, rootsy modern sound of artists such as D’Angelo, Stevie Wonder and Twinkie Clark, Gadiaga’s breadth of ambition and revitalising approach have brought early critical acclaim and ardent fans.
Joining Gadiaga on the bill is DoomCannon: the alter ego of visionary composer, producer and multi-instrumentalist Dominic Canning — a musical force who cut his teeth as part of genre-pushing groups TriForce and Project Karnak. The South London native has shared stages with Celeste (as musical director) and graced platforms from the BRIT Awards to Later…with Jools Holland. His 2022 debut album Renaissance earned critical acclaim for its expansive sound and political urgency. Now, with Somewhere In Between, DoomCannon turns the lens inward — exploring personal growth, emotional honesty and the hard-earned lessons found in transition.
Keeping the energy high, DJs from the Jazz re:freshed collective will round out this unmissable night of future-facing jazz.
